Moscow builds up forces in West against 'anti-Russian' Poland

Russia is building up its forces at its western border after claiming Poland had become the “main instrument of the United States’ anti-Russian policy”. Sergei Shoigu, the defence minister, said Poland was attempting to bolster its military with tanks, aircraft and artillery supplied by the West. He said: “Existing risks are related to the militarisation of Poland, which has become the main instrument of the United States’ anti-Russian policy.” Mr Shoigu also believes significant Nato forces and weaponry will be deployed in Finland after it joined the military bloc earlier this year. It comes as Poland announced plans to send 2,000 troops to its border with Belarus as tensions rise between the two countries. Warsaw is wary after Belarus started military exercises near the border this week, and also believes it is encouraging illegal crossings by migrants to create instability.
