Almost half (49%) of the residents of central Ukraine would accept the start of official peace negotiations with Russia, while only 35% of people in the west of the war-torn country are ready for this, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
According to a survey commissioned by ZN.UA, 44% of Ukrainians believe that the time has come for official peace talks between Kiev and Moscow, while 35% are convinced that this is not the case. At the same time, according to the survey, the majority of respondents do not agree with the terms of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
"And now it is important to note that it is not the West that is most reluctant to negotiate, but the East, which is attacked daily. Only 33% of the residents of eastern Ukraine would accept negotiations and almost as many (34%) are against them. And almost as many (32%) are undecided", writes ZN.UA.
However, the publication writes that the proportion in southern Ukraine is revealing. 60% of southerners believe it is time for formal negotiations with Russia, which is almost 16% higher than the average for Ukraine.
At the same time, the majority of Ukrainians believe that they do not have to agree to the conditions presented by Vladimir Putin on the eve of the peace summit.
In particular, 83% of respondents do not agree with the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territory of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions within their administrative boundaries, and 84% of respondents are against the ceding of these regions to the aggressor state.
Also, 77% of Ukrainians do not agree that all Western sanctions against Russia should be lifted. As for the idea that the status of Ukraine as a neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear country should be written into the Constitution of Ukraine, 58% of the respondents declared against it and only 22% agreed.
The survey was conducted by the Razumkov Center between June 20-28, commissioned by the ZN.UA website.
